One Day Trip in Moinot Ghat-Dohar,Dhaka

The name Moinot Ghat is very familiar to almost all tourists. It’s also called “Mini Cox’s Bazar”. For the past few years, the banks of the Padma have been bustling with tourists cause this place is a very short distance from Dhaka and takes less time to reach there. A huge number of tourists visit this place almost every year. Moinot Ghat is located in Dohar Upazila of Dhaka District, only 58.5 km distance from Dhaka. So on holidays, you can visit Moinot Ghat with your friends or family.

Best time to go to Moinot Ghat-

As it is on the banks of Padma, it is crowded with tourists only during the monsoon season. The water of the river rises very high during monsoon. But you can come to this ghat at any time of the year except summer. In winter, the water is low, so chars(pastures) are seen in different parts of the river. You can go to those pastures by boat/speedboat. Moreover, the river is calm in winter and the water is not cloudy. So if you want to avoid the crowd or want to have a different experience in char, you can go to Moinot Ghat even in winter.

How to go Moinot Ghat-

There are several ways to reach this Moinot Ghat in Dohar. It takes about two and a half hours to 3 hours. But the easiest way is to go directly from Gulistan.

-The bus leaves from Gulistan, in front of Golapshah Shrine to Moinot Ghat. The fare is Tk 90 per person.

-Also you can hire CNG from Babubazar Bridge (in front of Gulistan) in Dhaka and go to Nawabganj Bazar or Bagmara Bazar. Rent is 150 taka-200 taka per person. Rickshaws or autos go from Nawabganj Bazar/ Bagmara Bazar to Moinot. The fare is Tk 200-250. You can reserve CNG/auto from here, in that case, it will cost Tk 400-500 ( up & down)

Where to eat in Moinot Ghat?

Moinot Ghat means Bank of Padma River. And the Padma means fresh Hilsa fish. So definitely don’t forget to eat Hilsa fry. You will find a food hotel on the side of the road next to the ghat. You can have lunch there. Fried Hilsa fish per piece – 100 Taka (one piece), small fish 60 Taka, shrimp fish 150 Taka, roasted beef 150 Taka, chicken 80 Taka, handmade Hilsa fish paste 20 Taka. You can order a package ( hilsa fish + small fish + two types of handmade bhorta(paste) + rice = 180 Taka. Food is available anytime till evening. There are several hotels here, you can take your lunch from any hotel according to your choice.

Boat, Speedboat, or Trawler Hiring cost at Moinot Ghat-

If you want, you can rent a boat, trawler, or speedboat on the banks of the Padma River. In the off-season, there are no small boats, only you will get speedboats. Across the river is Faridpur. Many passengers travel across by trawler/speedboat From Moinot Ghat to Faridpur. It takes 15-20 minutes. The fare is Tk 150 per person. If you want, you can reserve the entire speedboat and go across the river. In that case, the fare will be 1500 taka. 8-10 people can go together. After 15-20 minutes, you must return to the speedboat. You can also reserve a speedboat for 800 Taka and explore the rive. There is a ticket counter in front of the ferry wharf. You have to go to the ferry wharf after buying the ticket and then board the trawler/speedboat.

Where to stay at night in Moinot Ghat-

No resort or hotel has yet been developed to stay at Moinot Ghat. If you want to stay at night, you can come to Nawabganj Sadar and stay the night. Nawabganj residential hotel is here. Besides, there is Zila Parishad Dak Bungalow on the opposite side of the City Bank. You can also stay at Shamim Guest House and Kalakopa Guest House which is adjacent to Adnan Palace. You can spend the night in any hotel or guest house according to your choice.

Total cost in Moinot ghat trip-

Bus fare cost- 90tk x2=180 Tk

Lunch cost- 150-180 tk

Speedboat/Trawler/boat cost- 150 Tk(per person)

Total cost- 480 tk to 510 tk.

Minot Ghat Travel Tips-

1) You must leave in the morning for Moinot Ghat. If you want, you can visit the Zamindar house of Kolakopa in Nawabganj and then Moinot Ghat. Or you can visit Baruakhali Sub House, Beribadh, Mainot Ghat, and Bahra Ghat in Dohar in one day.

2) It is better not to visit Minot Ghat during the summer.

3) Don’t forget to eat the Hilsa fish on the river bank.

4) Mainot ghat looks the most beautiful in the afternoon. Enjoy the beauty of the Padma River by boat, speedboat, or trawler in the afternoon.

6) Leave Moinot Ghat after enjoying the sunset.

Precautions while visiting Moinot Ghat-

1) Bargaining first before renting a boat or speedboat.

2) Board the bus before 8 pm. Buses are not available after approximately 8 pm. Buses are directly available from Moinot Ghat to Gulistan, Dhaka. otherwise, you can go directly back by CNG.
